REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE
At the heart of the Three Mountains Cocoa approach is regenerative agriculture, which can restore ecosystems, improve water and carbon cycles, promote healthy food production, and enables communities to flourish.
Cocoa agroforestry is crucial, involving planting non-cocoa species on the same plot as cocoa trees. This permaculture practice of inter-cropping enables farmers to diversify their income and diet while enhancing the surrounding environment with indigenous biodiversity.
The biodiversity resulting from agroforestry positively impacts farm productivity through carbon sequestration, pest control and pollination, and improvements in soil quality, air purity, and water health. It also helps mitigate the impact of climate change and supports the continuity of natural habitats, including the surrounding UNESCO-protected forest.
-
Committed to organic agriculture, Three Mountains Cocoa encourages participating farmers to avoid using herbicides, synthetic fertilisers, pesticides, and agrochemicals. By transitioning to regenerative practices and organic production, Three Mountains Cocoa has helped farmers improve their health and has already seen reduced hospital visits. The soil quality has significantly improved by creating a healthier ecosystem for the return of animals like birds, bees, butterflies, and centipedes, and cocoa trees have become healthier and are delivering increased yields.
By working side-by-side to provide farmers with training and support, we ensure the implementation of best practices for respecting biodiversity and protecting natural ecosystems.
